Youth and Children’s Worker

The BIG Project is recruiting a Youth and Children’s Worker and is seeking a committed and experienced individual who brings energy and enthusiasm to join our team.

The Big Project is a community-based Youth and Children’s Project which supports children and young people, aged 5-18 years living in the Broomhouse Area of Edinburgh to learn, achieve, have fun and feel good about themselves. Delivering high-quality provision to the children and young people of The Broomhouse area of Southwest Edinburgh for over 16 years The BIG Project is now an established and much-valued resource with a good track record.
This post is initially offered for a fixed term of 3 years and is dependent thereafter on future funding being available.

Purpose of Job

The Youth and Children’s Worker will take the lead in developing and supporting The BIG Project’s community-based services to children and young people aged 5 – 18 years including a universal open-access youth and children’s work programme, targeted group-work, and individual support. They will be responsible for developing an innovative programme of exciting and attractive activities, including holiday provision and residential as well as leading on both the consultation and evaluation of this work. They will also recruit and support the Sessional staff and Volunteers involved in these programmes.

The Youth and Children’s Worker will ensure that the organisation meets local need and the targets negotiated with funders.

Sessional Youth and Children’s workers (x2)

We are currently seeking applications from motivated and enthusiastic people to work in our youth and children’s clubs.

Be ready to work in a team setting and bringing energy, enthusiasm and commitment; you will be required to design and deliver a wide range of age-appropriate activities.

Tuesday club for 3 hours from 6pm-9pm for children in Primary 5, 6 and 7.

The Tuesday Club is an activity club focussing on sports/games, arts & crafts, cooking and board games etc. We are looking for an enthusiastic person who can design, lead and manage a range of activities.

Roots Club on Fridays for 2.5 hours from 12noon- 2.30pm children in Primary 3 and 4.

Roots Club is a creative play club, where the children engage in informal, fun, play focused activities, allowing them to develop their imagination through arts & crafts, toys, dress up and games. We are looking for a creative, imaginative person who can lead and manage a range of activities.

Rate of pay: £8.85- £10.00 per hour depending on experience.
